A former managing editor at American Songwriter, Annie continues to freelance for the magazine and other music publications including CMA Up Close and GRAMMY. com. Previously, she served as a country music contributor at Forbes and Billboard. Her byline has appeared in Country Weekly, CMT, Marie Claire, MTV, and Rolling Stone.

Annie is always open to helping others in the industry, whether it’s writing a bio, press release, or connecting. Reach her at atreuter@gmail.com.

Favorite piece of advice: “There’s enough work for everyone.” A mentor of mine shared this with me when I first moved to Nashville. As a longtime freelance writer, I would say “yes” to everything because of fear that work would dry up. It was a sentiment I needed to hear to pay it forward to other journalists when I got bogged down and to share the workload.

Favorite quote: “Follow your bliss,” Joseph Campbell

Fun fact: Former president Barack Obama and AJ McLean of the Backstreet Boys follow me on Twitter (or X as they call it now!). I’ll never know why, but it’s a great conversation starter!

Favorite hobby/pastime: Hiking, spending time outdoors and near the water
