SOURCE AWARD RECIPIENT
Celia Froehlig
Hill & Range Music, Famous Music, EMI Music Publishing, Black River Music
Celia Froehlig came from Alabama, not with a banjo on her knee, but definitely with a love for music.
Celia's entire career has been spent in publishing, beginning in 1975 when fellow Source member, Pat Rolfe, hired her as her assistant at Hill & Range Songs, Inc. Shortly afterward, Hill & Range was purchased by Chappell Music and Celia worked her way up the ladder from receptionist/secretary to creative director during the "glory years" of Chappell. In late 1986 Warner Brothers bought Chappell Music and Celia joined the newly formed Warner/Chappell, as director of creative. In 1988 she was hired to run the Nashville Division of Screen Gems, Inc. As a result of yet another purchase and merger in 1989, Celia was named vice-president/ Southern Region of EMI Music Publishing. During her tenure, EMI Music became a major force in Nashville, rivaled only by Sony/Tree.
In 1996 Celia opened Froehlig Palmer Music where she and Robin Palmer, enjoyed such hits as "Where the Green Grass Grows", "We Were in Love", "Love, Laugh, Love" among others. Celia's latest journey is Black River Music Group, Inc. where she is vice president of publishing. Celia is a 1991 graduate of Leadership Music, has served on the Songwriter's Foundation Board, Copyright Society Board and the Tennessee Film Commission; and is a member of SOURCE and Chicks With Hits. She lives in Brentwood with her two yorkies, Nickalas and Ellie and their wonderful grandparents. One thing has never changed over the course of Celia's career, she still "loves music" and "loves" the people who make it!
