A Nashville native, Janice Jackson, secured her first industry job at performing rights organization, ASCAP. It was an ideal way to begin a career that would take her from there to Capitol Records, when Lynn Shults hired her to work in the promotion department, where she worked with Dottie West and Kenny Rogers, among others. Six months later, Lynn left and Karen Conrad hired her to come to Blendingwell/Sister John Music, her first publishing gig, where she found her calling. She met and worked with such writers as Gene Pistilli and Ronnie Rogers. T he superstar group, Alabama’s opened Maypop Music just as Blendingwell’s doors closed, and she worked with group members: Randy Owen, Teddy Gentry, Mark Herndon and Jeff Cook, along with songwriters Lisa Palas, John Jarrard and Will Robinson. General Manager, Kevin Lamb, became a mentor, hiring her twice as he moved from Maypop to peer music. Maypop led to Almo Irving where she stayed almost ten years, working with David Conrad and a stellar group of songwriters including Mike Reid, Kent Robbins, Annie Roboff, Beth Neilsen Chapman and Craig Wiseman. She became the point person for Mark Knopfler when he was in town, and in addition to handling the Dire Straits Productions checkbook, she ran errands for him. By this time, she had worked with both Karen and David Conrad, and she considers them mentors as well. From Almo Irving she went to peer music and from there, to the Writer’s Den. When that closed, she decided to go independent and formed Travellers Hollow Music, LLC in 2008. with a client base exceeding 100 writers for admin. On her own, her clients have included Diamond Rio, Toby Keith, The Statler Brothers, Aaron Tippin, Angaleena Presley and oh so many more. Outside publishing, Janice has bred, trained and shown English Bull Terriers and has had two in the Top 10 in the nation.
