On October 28, SOURCE members gathered at InDo Nashville for a social unlike any other—an empowering evening focused on safety, strength, and self-confidence. Hosted by renowned trainer Mike McGrath, the “Get Empowered: Self-Defense Night” gave attendees real-world tools and insights that could make all the difference in everyday situations.
The evening kicked off with a PowerPoint presentation that covered essential self-defense principles and strategies to help women stay alert and prepared. Mike shared valuable information on how to avoid potential confrontations, recognize unsafe environments, and take preventive measures many of us might not have previously considered.
Following the classroom session, the group transitioned into hands-on tactical exercises—putting the lessons into motion. Members learned:
How to be prepared and avoid confrontation or victimization
Practical safety measures and awareness habits
Options for non-lethal protective weapons with stopping power
Techniques for de-escalating active threats
How to identify weaknesses in an attacker
The most effective points on the body to strike—and how to do so properly
The result was a night filled with learning, empowerment, and camaraderie. What began as a typical social became a transformative experience—one that left everyone feeling more capable and confident.
We are grateful to Mike McGrath for donating his time and expertise to equip the women of SOURCE Nashville with this invaluable skillset — and to Kate Richardson and InDo for opening their doors to support our mission of connecting, educating, and empowering women in the music business.
